Just when you thought you know who your friends are, the people whom you can entrust your all, life would smack you in the face and give you an opportunity to see who your real friends are.
We go through life collecting friends. As a poem goes, "Make new friends but keep the old, the one is silver and the other is gold...". We have new friends, and we also have old. Sometimes we lost touch with our old friends and when we meet again its such a sweet reunion. Sometimes though, the ones that you consider your old friends who are always there with you are not friends at all. And surprisingly some people whom you have just met are there for you just like old friends should. As Mary Catherwood said, "Two may talk together under one roof for many years, yet never really meet; and two others at first speech are old friends."
Real friends. These are very rare. There are so many instances when friends whom you expect to stand by you are the ones who turn their back on you when the going gets tough. As Walter Winchell said, "A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."
